Now you can book a cab by just talking to Google Assistant
Google has added a new functionality for its Assistant through which user can simply ask Google Assistant to book a cab ride. You can simply trigger Google Assistant by saying, "Ok Google" or holding the home button and then by saying, "Book a ride to India Gate (or whatever place you wish to travel)". Google will list out cab options of Ola, Uber and Meru along with the price. You can simply tap on the desired ride and confirm the booking from the cab provider. This feature is also now available on the Google Assistant on iPhones along with Google Home, or any smart speaker with the Assistant.
Also, you can also request a cab ride from a preferred cab service provider. For example, “Hey Google, get me an Ola ride to Gateway of India.” The feature will be available first in English. Google has plans to expand to more languages in the coming months.
In a recent update, Google Assistant added “Tell me something good” feature. With this, Google Assistant will deliver curated good news - stories about people who are solving real-life problems across the world. "Tell me something good" is a new experimental feature, currently available for Assistant users in the US.
Meanwhile, Google recently rolled out a new Android app to provide hands-free support to individuals with motor and mobility impairments. Called ‘Voice Access’, the app lets people navigate through apps, compose and edit text, and talk to Google Assistant. With the help of the app, users can control their phone by giving voice commands. For example, one can use his/her voice to ‘click’ buttons. They can also navigate and scroll screen apps.
Notably, the app will prove helpful not only to those with any form of disability but also to those who are middle in activities like cooking and cannot access their phone.
You can now book Ola or Uber directly from Google Search from their smartphones in India. The users can find directions and choose from a menu of ride service options straight from Google Search app or through the mobile search browser.
This feature was made available on the latest version of Google Maps earlier this year.
"With this, users will be able to order, explore and make quick comparisons about the best estimated taxi fare directly from Google Search results on their mobile," said Sanket Gupta, Programme Manager, Google.
Open Google Search app (can be found inside Google folder) on your Android Phone. This can also be done by activating Google Now through a long press of the home button.
To book an Ola, just say "Ola to the place where you want to go". For example, if you wish to travel to Delhi Airport, just say "Ola to Delhi Airport". You can similar book Uber as well, like say "Uber to CR Park." You can also type the same, if you are not willing to talk.
The Google Search app will instantly provide ETA and expected fare range. On selecting the preferred cab type, users will be directed to the app automatically to confirm the ride.
In case, if you do not have Ola or Uber installed on your smartphone, Google will direct you to Google Play to install it.
When my friends and I are getting ready to head out to dinner, there's always a moment when we stop to ask who is going to order our ride. Now, Google can take care of it. This week, we’re rolling out a new way to easily book ride services with your Google Assistant.
With your Android phone, iPhone, Google Home, or any smart speaker with the Assistant, start by saying, “Hey Google, book a ride to the Bluebird Cafe” or “Hey Google, get me a taxi to Denver International Airport.” You will then be given a list of popular ride services to select from, including Uber, Lyft, Ola, Grab, GO-JEK and many more, along with more information on estimated pricing and wait times from each service. If you only want ride options from a single provider, just include their name in your request, for example, “Hey Google, get me a Lyft ride to SFO.”
Then grab your phone and tap on your preferred ride service, and the app will open to let you confirm the booking. The feature will be available first in English and any country where one of our supported ride service partners operate. We plan to expand to more languages in the coming months.
If you’re in a hurry and your hands are all tied up, you’ll now be able to use the Assistant to see all your favorite ride services in one place and pick the one that works best for you.
